Veneers: Makers of the Million-Watt Smile

โ€œHope is tomorrowโ€™s veneer over todayโ€™s disappointment.โ€ โ€“ Evan Esar

Go figure veneers were invented in California.

The home of the Hollywood smile was also home to a dentist by the name of Charles Pincus who crafted the first-ever veneers in 1928 to temporarily change the appearance of an actorโ€™s teeth.

Over the years, the material used to make veneers (and the adhesive that bonds them) has come a long way, from acrylic back in the beginning to the porcelain and synthetic options we use today. The average set of veneers nowadays can last around 10-30 years.

Whether itโ€™s for a single tooth or an entire mouthful, veneers are used for a number of cosmetic and protective reasons.ย  Some people suffer from fractured, discoloured or decaying teeth. Other people have small teeth resulting in spaces not easily closed by orthodontics; or have worn away the edges, giving them a prematurely aged appearance. And some people were just dealt a crooked hand in the teeth game. Whatever the reason, veneers can be a powerful solution for restoring damage and self-esteem.
